TESTING OPTIONS

Air
Air
Scope:
Capture a set amount of indoor air in a chosen living area and compare the types and levels of fungal spores found with those in the outdoor air surrounding the home.
Advantages:
More cost-effective than viable sampling.
Scope:
●  Non-viable testing: Identifies fungal organism groups without specifying species.

●  Results indicate fungal spores present during the collection period in the tested area.

●  Limited to around 100 square feet of open space.

● Surface-bound fungal spores may not be airborne.
Recommended:
●  Notify all occupants/owners after the remediation process concludes to confirm that airborne spore levels indoors are equal to or lower than those outdoors (clearance).

●  For generally healthy occupants/owners residing in areas showing visible indications of current or past water damage or repairs.

●  For prospective homeowners in good health, if property purchase disclosures reveal prior water intrusion or repair activities.
Dust
Dust
Scope:

Collect dust from living areas and analyze it for attached mold particles.
Advantages:

● Viable testing: Identifying specific fungal species present.

● As dust accrues gradually, findings reflect the home’s history for up to a decade.

● The results reflect the specific area where dust was gathered. This process can focus on an individual area or the entire home, potentially necessitating multiple samples.
Limitations:
Costlier than non-viable sampling.
Recommended:
●  Addressed to all occupants/owners seeking information on the history of water damage in their living areas.

● Directed at occupants/owners with health concerns, allergies, or autoimmune disorders, especially when living areas show visible indications of current or past water damage or repairs.

● For home buyers with health concerns, allergies, or autoimmune disorders, particularly when property purchase disclosures reveal prior water intrusion or repair activities.
Swab
Swab
Scope:

Gather a surface sample from each area exhibiting potential mold growth or visible residue.

Advantages:
More economical than viable sampling.
Limitation:

●  Non-viable: Identifies fungal organism groups without specifying species.

●  Results solely reflect the sampled area.

●  Airborne fungal spore levels might remain high despite treating visible mold on surfaces.

Recommended:
Addressing all occupants/owners in living spaces displaying visible discoloration, residue, or increased moisture levels.
